Hi. Im a 19 year old female and I had a pilonidal cyst for almost 3 years and didnt tell my parents because i was too shy.
The cyst hurt a bit at first and then a small hole appeared, I was very confused and didnt know what it was. A smelly discharge came out and for those three years I had to do everything to hid the smell or hide the small leakage you could see in my pants. It was embarrassing and very uncomfortable. Eventually I told my boyfriend my secret, and he insisted that I tell my parents.
20 days ago I had removal surgery, and have not felt any pain since. I stayed one week in the hospital lying on my stomach and not moving, then I went home and did the same, occasionally moving and lying on my back. The doctor has been great, he checked up on me three times a day when I was at the hospital, and now I visit him three times a week.
Tomorrow they remove my stitches and I couldnt be happier. I think about how much easier my life will be: without the pain, without the smell, without the discharge. so I advise everyone to have removal surgery asap, and to not be embarrassed because the longer you wait the bigger the infected area will get.
Cheers!
