Jeffrey’s story

July 12, 2012

Hello everyone, I can’t wait to read everyone story but first let me share mine. Brutal thing indeed!! It started in 1991 as I was a pizza delivery guy, so I understand the wwii jeep epidemic.

Jumping in and out of my truck many times a night must of caused the first occurrences. Started as just small pustules on the top of my cleft, then a sinus passage formed going all the way downtown if ya know what i mean. Just down one side, about 6 inches by 1.5 inches. Hurt like hell, but i would gladly take that pain back anyday. The sores drained and so did the large sinus tract. Then I went and consulted a surgeon. Only because I thought it was cancer, seemed to be a sore that wouldn’t heal.

I had surgery in 92, horrible and disgusting. Left a gapping hole at the base of my spine 1.5 inches in diameter by 2 inches deep, and the surgeon scrapped out the tract. Packed it every day twice a day till the hole filled in with new tissue. Little did I know at the time that that scar tissue would lead me to the worst imaginable pain of my entire life. I am currently propped up in bed having just started draining this morning, 20 years later. The pain has been bearable the last 10 years or so or i am just use to it. I have had days that it has gotten so big and the skin stretched so far I have had to crawl to the tub for relief.

You see, that scar tissue….doesnt stretch, doesnt give, only causes the worst pain. I have had it lanced before so that helps with future flare ups. Since the lance location breaks open easier. I have figured out the main thing that causes flare ups though. I can’t sit on the ground. Something with sitting with my legs crossed and on a hard surface causes a re-occurrence . twice this year, none last year. I would have another surgery I think, but am terrified that it will be even worse. Not too mention the months I will be off work since they will have to excise the entire tract down one cheek and half down the other. I have spent many days and nights crying in the tub, crying in bed, even at work. It is quite possible the worst thing anyone could go through.

My heart goes out to all of you!! I wish you all the very best!! Can’t wait to try some of the ideas you have.
