Jimmy’s story

June 7, 2011

I am glad to find this website and wished I had found it 1 year ago. I just had my surgery done yesterday and the doctor found a considerable amount of hair in the pocket. The surgery was about 45 minutes and the Anesthesia used was (MAC) Monitored Anesthesia Care.

I did have an infection approximately 1-month before the surgery. After taking antibiotics to clear things up I was ready for surgery. I was just as nervous as most and had some of the same concerns some other people are posting on here. The Dr. used a couple of staples and some stitches to close it up. I do not have hardly any pain from the surgery and little to no drainage.

The Dr. told me there is a 20-30% chance of infection after surgery. I am not worried. Just make sure to keep area clean and change dressing (Gauze 4×4) regularly. I have been leaving the area open to fresh air to help the healing. The Dr. gave me a prescription of antibiotics and Norco. I have been taking my meds and lying on my side and not sitting.

I know there are some horror stories out there, I am writing my story to hopefully calm the nerves for anyone out there getting ready for surgery.
