Hi, my name is Kelsey and I’m 17. I first noticed my Pilonidal Sinus a couple months ago, it never really hurt I just noticed some drainage.
So I told my parents and I went to the doctor and he said it wasn’t a Pilonidal Sinus, he said my bone never grew right. So he sent me to a surgeon. I went there and she said it was Pilonidal Disease and had to have surgery soon before it got infected. I got surgery July 2nd and it was about an hour long and stayed in the hospital until the 4th of July. She thought a closed incision would be best because it’s less healing time, so I agreed. I thought I would at least try it! I am doing more to keep it from getting infected.
I don’t know if anyone else has done this but I thought I would tell anyone who has it and can’t decide on an open or closed incision. After every bowel movement I always change my dressing and the doctor gave me a anitbacterial sponge and soap for washing the wound, they use the sponge and soap for surgeries. So I clean my wound with that and rinse it with bottle water or they can give you water. Dry it with toilet paper or gauzes and put antibacterial Zinc cream on it and put a gauze on the wound and tape it up! I do that every time I have a bowel movement and if I don’t I do it once a day. I have had no pain, well maybe a little sharp pains but I think it’s the stitches and it has been itching.
My wound is not pink or anything like that, the last time I took medicine was on the 8th of July. I am so happy because I am getting 2 of 4 of my stitches out Tuesday! I have had no problems with the closed incision and if anyone is having a problem deciding on whether you want a closed or open incision, I would highly recommend the closed! I know it’s higher chance of infection but you can at least try it. It’s a 50/50 chance you can get infected with closed incision but with what I have been doing to keep it from getting infected, my doctor said its 10% chance I’ll get infected!
So I just thought I would tell y’all my story! I am still scared to sit but I will Tuesday! 🙂
