Hey I’m Kim and I’m 19. I got my first cyst in November 2011 and thought I was dying I was in that much pain! I went to the dr and she prescribed antibiotics (ceflex).
The next night I ended up in ER with horrible pain and what felt like a bubble on top of the lump. They called in the on call dr who was my normal dr that I hadnt been able to get into the day before. He immediately suggested lancing it which I agreed to as I was having hallucinations from a fever associated with the cyst. He did it under local anesthetic and after he was finished I felt so relieved! It still hurt for a couple of days but nothing like the day I went to hospital. He also prescribed stronger antibiotics and panadeine forte and referred me to a surgeon who I saw on the 9th of January 2012. The surgeon advised against surgery due to healing complications and we’d review my situation in 12 months.
At the end of January 2012 I felt the same pain again and my usual dr (who performed the lancing) was on holidays! My new second choice dr didn’t have any appts available so I had to see the female dr I saw last time. She examined it again and told me it would be a waste of time lancing it as it did not have a head and prescribed more antibiotics. I then ended up in ER the next night as the pain had gotten worse and I’d gotten another bubble. I was told again by another dr that it still didn’t have a head and sent home again. The next night it had doubled in size and I went back to ER to be told it still didn’t have a head by the head nurse who gave me some good advice to use a drawing cream and heat packs to get the infection to the surface. By the time I awoke this morning it had once again doubled in size and was extremely painful to move and I had my mother (who is a former nurses aide) to check it and she said it had a very small head but to give it one more night with drawing cream and a heat pack which is how I currently am now. I’m heading back to ER in the morning as its excruciating pain when I move. I wasn’t extremely embarrassed by it as my pain outweighed my insecurities. I am a larger girl and have noticed a slight amount of hair around the area but nothing ott. My father also had one which as of the last I heard still had it and had it recurr for 20 odd years.
