I have had 3 operations for my pilonidal cyst. I have my forth surgery scheduled for next month. In 2011, after about a week, I told my mom my butt started to hurt. I went to my doctor and she told me I just had a rash.
The next week the pain got exceedingly worse. I went back to my doctors office and my other doctor told me I should go to the hospital as soon as possible. I didn’t end up going to the hospital because it was a Friday night and I didn’t want to sit in pain there for hours. I ended up going to an emergency care place. They told me my cyst needed to be lanced and drained. Thankfully my cyst had already opened on it’s own and she just had to drain it. First off, I am not one to cry and I have a high tolerance for pain. Well this hurt so bad I was crying like a little baby.
My cyst was one of the biggest the lady had ever seen. She said the puss and blood was going everywhere thats how much there was. My mom told me later that it even hit the lady in the face! I got pain meds after and that helped. After the lancing I felt so much better it was unbelievable. I was still in a lot of pain but there wasn’t all that pressure and build up so that helped. I was recommended to go to a doctor by my friend. I was scheduled for surgery as soon as it closed up. The surgery went well and she took out a huge chunk of the cyst. She closed this incision up with I believe 20 something stitches.
For a year I went back to her every week for weekly suction and cleaning. Most of the incision closed but there was still an opening. In 2012, she went back in again to close it up. She closed the second surgery as well. After about a year and half she said it all closed up but it would still drain repeatedly so I decided to find a new doctor. I was anxious and nervous to find a new doctor because where I lived she was the only female doctor dealing with this sort of procedure. I went to the doctor and his assistant and himself were in the room. They couldn’t believe i have had two surgeries prior.
In 2013, he said they are going to do surgery in about two weeks! It was crazy I went to a doctor for two and a half years and she did two surgeries for me and I go to this new doctor and within maybe half an hour of knowing him here I am getting surgery already. He decided this surgery we are going to leave it open and I would have to pack it everyday. This hurt at first but you get used to it and its quick and easy now. I just went back to him today and he said it’s healing up nicely and he put silver nitrate on it. I don’t even feel anything they do anymore because I don’t have any nerves left back there! haha I have a huge keloid for the past two surgeries. He wants to do a z plasty to help eliminate the bump because its extremely noticeable and I am very self conscious about it. I will write back and let you all know how it goes!
I’m glad this site is hear because my friends don’t understand what I’m going through and by reading all of your stories it makes me feel like I’m not alone in this and there are people out there suffering with me. Also that there is a light at the end of the tunnel I just have to stick through it and I’ll get there soon enough!
