To start off I’m a 24 year old female living in Ga. I’m a 911 dispatcher so I sit in a very uncomfortable office chair 8 hours ever day.
I had my first pilonidal cyst about a month and a half ago. It started as a small bump on the top of my tailbone. I thought it was just a big bite. 2 days later i was in excruciating pain and the bump had swollen to the size of a golf ball. I went to the “doc in a box” and he told me it was cellulitus prescribed me some medicine and sent me home. The next day which was a Sunday the bump had grown even more and I was very sick. Fever, throwing up, sweats, it sucked.
I went to my general practitioner on Monday and he sent me to a surgeon. One look at it and the surgeon said I needed surgery ASAP. He scheduled my surgery for the next day. Because of the size and pain I was already in I was put to sleep and the surgeon lanced my cyst drained it and I was on my way home 2 hours later with a huge bandage on my butt. He prescribed me some medicine for infection as well as pain meds.
Everything was fine the first three weeks. Then last week I noticed the cyst coming back. This time it wasn’t hard like it was the first time. It busted nasty puss all over the place while walking to my mailbox. I called my surgeon and he advised me that I need to have another surgery or it would keep coming back.
I had a closed excision this past Tuesday. More pain meds prescribed. They told me that he stitched up the inside with dissolvable stitches then suttered up the outside with some nylon stitches. It has been 3 days since surgery. The pain is minimal unless I move a certain way which causes my stitches to pull. I have a follow up with my surgeon on Monday and I assume he will take out the nylon stitches then.
My work is pressuring me to go ahead and come back as if they feel this isn’t a serious thing.
