My story is actually my son’s story. It first began four years ago. Four operations, daily dressings, and not one single day free of this condition. He was 17 when it first reared it’s ugly head and he is now nearly 21. Can’t go swimming, can’t go camping with his mates, can’t play sport. Not hw a young man should be spending his youth.
Four different operations have been performed. His bum is covered in scars. He gets so sick of it. No one seems to care. Young men shouldn’t have to worry about whether or not they have blood on their pants, not feeling comfortable going out with girls because they have a pad in their jocks.
Thankfully he has meet a girl who is very supportive. She now does his daily dressings, which was my job for the first three years. Don’t know where to go or what to do. We both cried on the way to the hospital last time he had to go back. The previous stitches spread open like opening a ziplock bag. It went from a 1cm opening to 7cm in two seconds. Back to square one. I can’t wait for the day he is clear of this horrible condition.
