Stephany’s story

October 6, 2011

About 3 years ago I was feeling discomfort on my tailbone area. I went to a doctor and they gave me antibotics and it evenually went away.

A year went by and I was once again feeling discomfort in the same area. At first it just was uncomfortable and then it got to the point I could not sit, drive, even lay down without discomfort! I went to the ER and they told me it was a Pilonidal Cyst. To be honest I felt so embarrissed!! I thought this was caused by not cleaning myself correctly, I felt dirty.

Another year went by after I got the cyst lanced and I didn’t get anything. I was so excited, I thought it was gone forever! 5 days ago and it’s back!!! This time I caught it very early (I have no pain tolerence) and they lanced it again.

I’m in recovery now, for some reason it feels worse this time around than last. I have been reading about the surgery option, however, the doctor told me that the surgery is more for if you get flare ups more than once a year. I know that the procedure can be expensive, but so can getting it lanced every year too! I guesss I just need some advise on what to do.

Thank you for this website, I have learned a lot about the Pilonidal Cyst that I didn’t know!
