i first started to experience some tenderness on and off around my tailbone in late 2010, but thought as Im quite clumsy that I had just managed to bruise my tailbone somehow.
In April last year tho the pain steadily got worse and worse. My hour long bus journey in and out of work was becoming unbearable and eventually I asked my older sister to have a look at my bum, because I could feel hard swellings on either side of my bum crack. She said they were hemorrhoids so I bought some cream – needless to say a few nights later the pain had become excrutiating. I crawled down the stairs and asked my mom to take me to hospital. Straight away I was given painkillers and while waiting for a consultation with a surgeon, the abscess burst.
Just under 4 months later I was back in the ER with another large abscess which went both sides of my crack. A surgeon lanced it under local and I had the wound packed daily for 3 weeks. In October I had the cyst excised. I woke up with 6 tension stitches which were removed 14 days later and the wound was then left open.
Almost 5 months later, its still not healed. The wound keeps reopening, bleeding and weeping. I expressed concern several times to my surgeon who insisted that everything was normal and that the wound has just “overhealed” in some places and used silver nitrate on different parts. 2 days ago I saw him again and he finally agreed that something is wrong and is booking me in for another surgery to “have a look and see what’s preventing the wound from healing. maybe we left a stitch behind or something”.
Im def not looking forward to going through all of this again and am dreading the pain!! Keeping my fingers crossed that it’ll be sorted once and for all tho, cuz although it seems like such a small hing to people who dont have it, its the most painful experience of my life!
