Alaina’s story

November 22, 2013

I am 25 (female) and I have already had my fair share of these horrible pains in the a$@ (literally)! I believe the first one I got was when I was 22, it was so painful but I soaked in hot water with Epsom salt and applied heat and a round of antibiotics and finally it went away.

The next year almost around the same time I got another one…this time it was bigger and hurt worse. I tried to get rid of it on my own (above treatments, drawing salves, boil creams) and it would not budge! I had to get it lanced and that was excruciating but after the initial pain I felt so much relief from the pain I had been in before! It drained, healed and was all good.

Then last year, SURPRISE, I got another one in the same spot (right about where my butt-crack starts, more on one side). I was so upset and was not looking forward to dealing with this again. People don’t understand how bad they hurt, I couldn’t even walk, stand, bend, sit, or lay anyway without being in horrible pain!

Finally I went to see a surgeon and long story short I had the cyst removed (it was around 4″x4″ in size). It was an outpatient procedure and they loosely stitched me up. I had the longest recovery! Was supposed to be down for like 4 weeks but who has time for that (so I might have over done it too soon a little)! I was in a lot of pain but not as much as before. It took forever to notice healing going on, I was draining a lot and ended up have to pack the wound which is really easy to do by yourself (not!)! I went almost weekly and my doctor removed a stitch at a time for almost 5 weeks till they were all gone. My wound looked like Frankenstein and as a young girl I was so sad my cute butt now looked like this.

I was so frustrated with the situation and my surgeon! I also had to go back and get some silver nitrate to stop drainage that randomly started well into my recovery. It took months to completely heal and even longer for my tush to look more like it did before. My scar has progressed and isn’t really that noticeable anymore. I am coming up on about a year since my surgery and I am afraid I might be getting another one ;( it has been tender the last few days and some of my lymph nodes are swollen (possible sign of infection).
