Claudette’s story

December 8, 2012

Hi, I am so glad I found this website. I had my first experience with this problem in 2005 at he age of 52. I didn’t know hwat it was or what caused this boil on my backside. I just know it was sore and open and draining.

I am luck to have a very loving and caring husband who helped me treat it and keep it clean. At first I tried hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, and yeast infection cream. Nothing seemed to help. It just so happend that I was scheduled for back surgery at the same time and the back doctor almost wouldn’t do the back surgery because of the open pimple on my backside. Once I was up and moving after the back surgery I went to see my PCP who immediatly sent me to see a general surgeon. She informed me that what I had was a Pilonial Cysts. She suggested that I not have the surgery to have it removed because the healing process in some case would be worst that the pain of the cysts.

I have had at least 2 flare-ups of the cysts every year since. I usually try to start treating the symtoms early with the help of my husband, We treat it externally and then if things don’t seem to be getting better, I will call my PCP for an antibiotic for the infection. This usually clears it up until the next flare-up. For now I choose to live with the occasional flare-ups and hop that hings don’t get to the point where surgery is a better option.

Thanks for letting me share.
