I am now 16 had my first pilonidal surgery in october 2010…they had left me open and every day until march a nurse would come over and pack it. During the beginning of march my absess had come back and he had to re operate. again i was packed for another couple of months until i was told i had healed. However during this period i had over-granulation 4 times and had to be burnt with silver nitrate. i also had 2 infections. After a while i had started to get a lot of pain, i was bleeding and was having discharge. Every doctor i went to said it was fine, even the surgeon said it was normal. I was adamant that something was wrong and so i went to a colorectal surgeon instead of a general one, meanwhile i was on heavy antibiotics that would give me heart burn and wake me up in the middle of the night. i went to see the colorectal surgeon and He told me that i needed surgery because the absess had returned and that was why i was getting discharge, blood and pain. He operated on me January 16th 2012. i had a karydakis flap. i was in hospital for 4 days and had a tube coming out of me to drain out the blood. it was the most painful operation out of the 3, i was unable to move for a few days. The surgeon told me that if i hadn’t operated when i did, i would’ve had serious problems with my anus because it was making its way down there.. now i am stitched up but the cavity is still there because he couldnt remove it. the area now smells even though i clean it every day, and is discharging something yellow and a bit of blood… does anyone know of alternative treatments? something that will heal me for good? my parents have even considered skin grafting. also, should i be worried about the pain i am getting? or is it normal since I’ve constantly been having issues.
