I’m a sixteen year old female. My first experience was in around September or August (2ish months ago). I was given antibiotics in the faithless hope that it would heal upon its own. I ended up having an allergic reaction to those antibiotics, but for a while everything was fine.
Then on Sunday of this week (November 6th) I found another. I was upset, to say the least. I told my mother and we arranged an appointment for Monday with my regular doctor. I was refereed to a new doctor, Dr. Saha. The next day I went in and got examined and was told I would have surgery this Thursday. Wednesday I was am emotional wreck. This was the single most embarrassing, not to mention the only serious medical issue, of my short life so far.
Well, I’m happy to say that I had my surgery this morning at 7 A.M. I am feeling no pain, only a bit of discomfort for the fact that it is packed and I can feel the gauze in the opening. I am so happy today, I could probably cry of happiness. While I know there is still a high rate of it returning later in life, and I have to deal with the packing and unpacking, PLUS the fact I am missing a lot of school for this, today has been the first day in the past week that I haven’t wanted to curl up and cry. These things suck, and if you need surgery, you need surgery. I’m just happy and lucky that we caught it so far. My doctor said that it didn’t look nearly as bad as some of the ones he has seen, and that it was a pretty intermediate sinus.
My advice to any young teen, women, man, or whoever else gets these. Just take care of them. Yes, they are embarrassing and nasty, but don’t let it keep you from doing what you know you need to do to get better. You will feel a lot better, I promise.
