Nikki’s story

December 20, 2015

My experience started 2 weeks ago during finals week when I noticed that my tailbone was feeling a little sore from sitting so much and studying.

That weekend, I went on vacation and got engaged! I pointed out my discomfort to him (he’s a nurse) and he noticed a small bump. Over the next 2 days, the bump grew and the discomfort grew. By Monday, we left our vacation early, drove straight home, and to the ER.

The ER doctors diagnosed it and lanced it under local anesthesia. 2 days later, I went for a follow up with a surgeon to check to healing process when he determined that it wasn’t draining. He admitted me to the hospital and I underwent general anesthesia for I&D that night.

The next morning, I was told I needed a full excision to remove the pits and sinuses. This was yesterday so hopefully this will be the end of it! I am in terrible pain. My fiance will be repacking the wound everyday (it was left open) and hopefully I will be well enough to return to school next semester.
